Vela and Laxton are May Students of the Month

Morgyn Vela and Gavin Laxton were introduced as the May Rotary Students of the Month at this week’s meeting of the club.  Morgyn is the Daughter of Ramon and Brenna Vela and Gavin is the son of Brad and Cassie Laxton.

Morgyn has three siblings, Kynleigh, Kason, and Mallee. Her activities at PHS include Basketball, FFA, Student Council and National Honor Society.  Her favorite subjects are English and FFA.  English because she loves to write and FFA because “I made so many amazing memories and lifelong friends.”

She chose JoBonney LeCompte as her most influential teacher. She says, “He has helped me and my classmates achieve many awards.  He always works so hard for his students.”

Her future plans are to attend Oklahoma State University and pursue a degree in Strategic Communications.

Gavin has one sibling, Zak.  In his years at PHS he has been involved in Band and Basketball and has worked in the summer on the PISD grounds crew.   His favorite subjects are Math and Science because he likes working with numbers and he likes being challenged.

Coach Josh King is Gavin’s most influential teacher/coach.  Gavin says, “He taught me to work for what I want and that most things in life do not come easily.”

Gavin plans to go into construction and home renovations because he enjoys that type of work. He hopes to start his own home renovation business in Perryton and to be active in the community.

Congratulations to these outstanding representatives of Perryton High School and good luck in your future plans.
