PHS Boys Powerlifters Win State!

Perryton High School Boys Powerlifters are 4A state champions! After a very long day at the meet (7 am-7 pm!) and 651 lifters, the PHS boys are state champs! Coach Kacey Arruda said, “Our boys competed their hearts out and many new PRs were hit! Stiff competition throughout, this one was for sure earned!”

Coach Arruda said he is “so proud of these boys and their work ethic, determination, and constantly staying locked in to every lift. Great day to be a Ranger!”

 

Individual highlights include sophomore Jonathan Becerril is the 114lb state champion! 

 

Isaac Castro (sr) placed 4th hitting a huge 30lb bench PR! 

 

Israel Loma (sr) placed 4th, pulling 520lb on the final deadlift to jump from 6th to 4th place! 

 

Christian Laja (sr) placed 2nd and fell short while attempting the state DL record at 650lbs!

 

Alonso Tarango (sr) placed 11th after hitting a huge 40lb bench PR. He attempted 560lb DL to get into 4th place but fell short. This weight class was very tight throughout! 

 

Daniel Alvidrez (jr) placed 5th after a 50lb bench PR and a 40lb DL PR. His final deadlift of 655 was to jump from 7th to 5th and also to set the state DL record! Daniel had the heaviest DL of the entire 4A meet! 

 

Congrats to all our boys! STATE CHAMPIONS!!!
